Meet the Author

Kathleen is an Honorary Fellow at Virginia Humanities, Charlottesville, Virginia. She has given scores of public speeches and lectures at professional conferences and public meetings in the United States and abroad, seeking new opportunities to share Appalachian cultural traditions with a wide audience.

“I have been fascinated by all forms of handcraft since I was a child digging through my grandmother’s stack of fabrics, yarn, and odd collectibles. I studied weaving at the Cranbrook Schools in Michigan and, although I no longer weave, I have been privileged to write about textile treasures that people on both sides of the Atlantic hold dear."

"Following a good story and sharing it with others has been my life’s work.”
